“The Living-Room Candidate”
Jul 30th, 2004 by scaredpoet

The American Moving Image Museum has compiled an exhibit of television commercials by presidential election campaigns, going all the way back to the first official campaign TV spots during the Eisenhower campaign. You can even download and view the commercials online.

Kinda interesting to note some of the things that have changed in election campaigns over the years, and of course, what hasn’t changed.

Al-Qaeda recruiting child molesters?
Jul 29th, 2004 by scaredpoet

So, some weirdo with an apparently non-Arabic background was pulled over for some traffic violation and found to be carrying all kinds of arabic-esque material and claiming to know all kinds of things about upcoming terrorist plots:

A driver stopped on an Iowa highway this month was found with flight-training manuals, Arabic documents and night-vision goggles, and he told troopers he knew of terrorist plans to shoot up trains in San Diego, according to court papers.

Michael Wagner, 44, of San Diego, said he had knowledge of terrorist activities and people and groups tied to al-Qaida and the Taliban. Wagner also said that he knew about things in the Muslim communities in San Diego that would interest federal authorities.

More of interest is that the guy had a previous record of “lewd and lascivious conduct with a 14 year old.” Yummy.

Considering Al-Qaeda’s penchant for being uber-religious, I doubt they’d go recruiting pedophiles to do their deeds.

I find myself walking by the house
of the lady who lived by the lights.

The New “Rage” – Flight attendants attacking passengers
Jul 21st, 2004 by scaredpoet

Well, this is refereshing. Drunken flight attendants decide to beat up on a passenger, after he complains about their lack of sobriety:

On Russian flights, attendants often have to struggle to keep intoxicated passengers under control. But on this flight, Dannenberg said, flight attendants were so intoxicated that they “behaved improperly” and only began catering to passengers 1 1/2 hours into the four-hour trip.

The daily Izvestia quoted another passenger as saying that half of the food the crew served ended up on the floor, leaving the aisle strewn with debris that passengers had to walk over as they disembarked. The flight attendants who beat Chernopup were men, Izvestia reported.

Yeah, only in Russia. 🙂
