Bad Guys? What are those?
Sep 30th, 2005 by CrazedPenguin

[Webmaster’s note: For those of you who are bored with my mundane musings, we now have a new site contributor! Everyone please welcome CrazedPenguin, who was insane enough to request column space on scaredpoet.com. Well Penguin, welcome to insanity. Enjoy. – ScaredPoet]

Bad guys. That brings forth a pretty strong image in the mind of most people, usually of a wicked man clad in a black cape, possibly wearing a top-hat and monocle depending upon the timeframe. But what are bad guys, really? Who are they? Not the silver screen villains, but the real world “bad guys?”

A Social Studies teacher at my high school responded with “I support the Patriot Act and the war in Iraq because it helps us catch and beat the bad guys.” Who are they, may I ask? The terrorists, yes, are “bad guys” no matter how you look at it. This isn’t about the Patriot Act or the terrorists or President Bush’s special way of taking the English language and turning it into an entirely different animal. It’s more about the “bad guys” the United States and its allies are facing in Iraq.

“We’re not Greedy, we just want more money!”
Sep 29th, 2005 by scaredpoet

The iPod appears to be more imperiled than once thought, and not just because of shoddy workmanship. the iTunes music store, Apple’s second revenue leader to the iPod (which you could argue depends very much upon the Music store) is in jeopardy as the record companies show their greed yet again.

After Steve Jobs calls the record companies “greedy” for pressuring Apple to raise its price for purchased music, the music execs repond, saying exactly what the title of this article suggests. Now, they not only want higher prices and a greater cut of the music revenue, but they want revenue from the hardware purchase of the iPod itself.

“We are selling our songs through iPod, but we don’t have a share of iPod’s revenue, we want to share in those revenue streams.” [Warner Music CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr.] said. “We have to get out of the mindset that our content has promotional value only. We have to keep thinking how we are going to monetize our product for our shareholders, we are the arms supplier in the device wars between Samsung, Sony, Apple, and others.”

Apple fans, take note: if you want to buy an iPod, do it now before the record companies get their way. I’m considering buying one myself, and soon, because I know the moment record companies start getting a cut of iPod sales, I will never be able to buy one with a clean conscience again. Because I don’t give my money to “arms suppliers.”

MORE iPod problems?!

ipod nano

First, the original Apple iPod had battery life issues. Now, the iPod Nano is starting to show problems of its own less than a month into its product launch. What is it this time? Seems the wafer-thin music players have screens that can crack under normal use.

For $299, you’d think they’d make this junk a little better. Yikes.

And here I was, thinking of buying one.

Conservativism != Conservationism

Cheney

“Conservation may be a sign of personal virtue, but it is not a sufficient basis for a sound, comprehensive energy policy.”
Dick Cheney, 2001

Bush

“If it makes sense for the citizen out there to curtail nonessential travel, it darn sure makes sense for federal employees. We can encourage employees to car-pool or use mass transit, and we can shift peak electricity use to off-peak hours. There’s ways for the federal government to lead when it comes to conservation.”
George W. Bush, 2005

Don’t blame me if the gas tanks run dry.

Oh, and don’t blame the horse whisperer if things went bad in Louisiana. Because it was everyone else’s fault but FEMA’s.
